Birmingham metal pressing manufacturer, H T Brigham, is pleased to welcome its second round of apprentice recruits this week, which it plans to nurture within the Quality Control and Engineering Design areas of the business. The apprenticeship scheme is run in conjunction with the LEMA academy based in Birmingham, which the pressworker has been working with since April this year, when the first intakes were recruited.

New apprentices, Conner and Jordan, are both local school leavers and are embarking on a 3 year course, which combines on the job training with a bespoke learning programme at LEMA’s specialist training facility. During the course, the apprentices will learn a wide range of manufacturing based skills, ultimately qualifying with a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering Manufacture.

MD, Barry Smith, says, ‘We are now eight months into the programme and it is working well for all parties. The initial recruits have been thrown in at the deep end, getting involved in genuine presswork tool refurbishment projects and by doing so, making a real contribution to the company’s productive output. H T Brigham has also been keen to give the apprentices an insight into all aspects of the company, so that they get an understanding of how a modern manufacturing business works and get a sense of their role within it.’

He goes on, ‘The company has been extremely impressed with how the apprentices have settled in and the level of enthusiasm and commitment they have demonstrated in the early stages of this process. They have integrated well and have become a valuable part of the team here at H T Brigham.’

With the first apprentices now fully embracing the tasks given to them and the second intake learning the ropes, H T Brigham is pleased with the successful implementation of this new scheme and is optimistic about the benefits it will bring to both the individuals and the company over the coming years.
