On 16th October, a wealth of Midlands manufacturers gathered at the Wolverhampton Science Park to celebrate the region’s achievements over the last 12 months. The Made in the Midlands initiative champions the region’s skill base throughout the supply chain, their annual awards event, recognises
growth, investment and innovation from local manufacturers.

It has been a prosperous year for pressworker H T Brigham. The company, which has experienced growth of 39% since the previous financial year, received a Manufacturing Achievement award in the Investment and Growth category. The award recognised the company’s recent £25,000 investment in the expansion of the warehouse department into a pre-existing unit already owned by the company.

This new unit increases the firm’s warehousing space, which has now more than doubled. The re-organised original stores area incorporates material receipt, raw material storage and WIP, while the new unit contains specially designated areas for finished presswork product, packing and final despatch.

The finished warehouse footprint optimises workflow through the section, reducing process waste and consequently improving efficiency. It will also facilitate production efficiency improvements and
create room for more productive space across the whole factory. 5S principles, which have already been successfully rolled out across the factory, are also being incorporated to assist this, resulting in a more streamlined process from material receipt through to final order despatch.
